I guess this is a response to pg_duckdb which had its initial release last week: https://github.com/duckdb/pg_duckdb Love the competition though. Looking forward to trying both of them when they are in RDS.

Trying to find out what this is / what DuckDB is. Go to website, see completely meaningless splash screen that doesn't tell you anything useful. Go to Documentation, see usage information, absolutely no information about what this actually is. Go to FAQ, still no information about what this is.

Is there some new rule about tech-focused startups where you're not allowed to tell somebody what it actually is / how it works / what it's used for, because you're afraid people will find out it's not for them?

edit ah after going back and poking around the website more, I finally found the "Why DuckDB" buried halfway in a menu. Still not a great summary, so Googling led me to understand it's SQLite for analytics. Maybe i'm the weirdo for wanting to see that first?

I've been yelling at the clouds over the same thing for years. Glad to see someone else being a "weirdo"!

For you those of you doing this, know that I won't go digging like 0xbadcafebee will; I'll avoid you when I go to choose a tech.

In some ways :). We've come to learn this feature should be truly open to the community, and are doing what we can to provide options to people. We had already done the work, so might as well make it accessible to as many as possible! :)

Looks like it was previously the AGPL, and has now switched to the PostgreSQL license:

Off topic but the designer who came up with that logo is a genius! :-)

I know right! We worked with this individual designer from Reddit. If you want their name, shoot me an email/linkedin/etc. and I'll connect you. He was great to work with.

  • Please update the title. Suggestion: Pg_analytics has switched to PostgreSQL license

When I first read this, I thought it's a smirk on pg_analytics being some kind of a wrapper around PostgreSQL and that they license and charge you for using it, kind of like how AWS is famous for wrapping various open-source projects and selling them.
