    If I did this, I would have enough parts left over to make two more cameras.

    The path of mechanical to electro-mechanical to electronic to digital, is just amazing. This generation of tech sits at the amazingly complicated half way point just before motorised lenses which added enough moving parts to make another 3 cameras if you left all the bits out you don't understand.

    I have a bit of crap on a lens of a sony digital sub-miniature I'd love to clean up but I am not going to even think about opening it, lest I let the magic smoke out.

    I used to sell those cameras; the X-700 was a decent, workaday SLR, but it was what you turned to with a sigh after staring wistfully at iconic you couldn’t afford.
