Protecting your time from predators in large tech companies

One of my defenses is being helpful in a way that always makes a record trail. (Not entirely cynically, sometimes my own notes from two years ago are very valuable.)

"There's no ticket? I'll just make one real quick. The steps I used to generate that report for you are on the ticket so that another developer can do it next month. Oooh, this might affect team X and Y, hold on a second while I check with them..."
